Never A Bad Day When A Lamborghini Shows Up!

Imagine you are cutting your grass one day and you get a text message from a friend saying they are bringing a car over for some pics. Imagine that five minutes later, a Lamborghini Gallardo is parked in your driveway. Pretty crazy, huh? Yeah, that happened. More on that later. That was my short intro.

If you grew up in the 80s, and you were a car fan, the Lamborghini Countach was the supercar that you dreamed of owning. I am guessing that it was also the best selling car poster ever made as everyone had one. I actually had the pleasure of sitting in one at a car show many years back, and even though it was almost 20 years old, it was still a sight to see. That car will never age in my opinion. It is still one of the most unique and futuristic body styles ever designed. If you are a real car fan, you have most likely seen the Cannonball Run movies, with the last installment being "Speed Zone." If you saw the movie Speed Zone, you know what I am talking about. If you haven't, watch this...

Fast forward a few more years, and yes, I am going to bring up Playstation again. On the second Need for Speed created, a new prototype Lamborghini was present, the Cala. It never made it to production but if you watch this video, you will know this spawned the birth of the Gallardo, well I at least think so. Notice the similarities?

Now the Gallardo has always been known as the baby Lambo. Missing the typical V12 in the older generation cars, there was now a V10. The car was noticeably smaller than the Countach and Diablo. It was more nimble, more user friendly, and based on what Underground Racing is doing with them now, loads more tunable. This car in stock form is fun, quick, and seriously good looking in my opinion. The Gallardo has been out for some time now but just like the Countach, it seems to stay young and vibrant. I can bet that 90% of the people reading this right now want a Underground Racing Gallardo. They are seriously insane. Ok, Ok..... a few more videos. Enjoy.

Who wouldn't want 1500 + horsepower in their Lamborghini, right? Well, maybe someday I will have the chance to drive a UGR Gallardo, I hope. But think about it..... this car has taken exotic tuning to a whole new level. The Gallardo shows you what an exotic car can do that older generation exotics couldn't. Take a Supra for example. You can get insane power from a big turbo Supra but trying to drive it is a different story. They are raw and scary. The Gallardo is more of a daily driven exotic. It is easy to work with. It has air pump in front to lift the car when pulling into a shady driveway. It is not brutal like the Countach was. This car has also taken Lamborghini to places I am sure they didn't expect. Sales skyrocketed and the Gallardo kept getting better and better.

When the car showed up, I really was blown away inside. Sure I did not show it but inside, I was glowing with excitement. A Lamborghini in my driveway. This with the Ferrari 458 are two cars that I never expected to stop by. The owners are extremely kind to let me take pics and I really appreciate them for coming over. Yes, I went from yard work to looking at a Lamborghini in my driveway. A Lamborghini in my driveway.... hahaha! What an awesome start to this blog this season. Exotics galore coming over to show off a bit! Works of art that I someday hope to own. Someday.

Again, thank you to the owner and the friends who brought it by. You know who you are. I can't say enough how much of a joy it is to meet the people that drive these cars. Back when I was a kid, I thought only lotto winners and CEOs had cars like these and I always imagined they would be very closed off when asked about them. These owners are the exact opposite; willing to share stories and chit chat away, and it makes me happy that I actually started this journey.

Thanks for reading... more cars to come. Please share with friends and have them like the FB page. And please comment on your thoughts or what you would like to see in the future!

A Fine Wine Is Like An Acura NSX..... Better With Age!

Who remembers when Playstation 1 came out?  I don't either. Our family didn't get one. When we were younger, we played outside. My automotive knowledge came from car magazines and Indy races on TV. Now around my junior/senior year in high school, Playstation was on the rise, as was the internet. A few friends had them and there were two games I wanted to play, and two games ONLY! The first one was Resident Evil. For those who remember that game, it was incredible, new age, and it would scare the living poopoo out of you. The only other game I cared for was the first Need for Speed. This game took driving simulation to a whole new level. It had stats, pictures, and best of all.... VIDEOS! Not some cheap computerized video, I'm talking real life videos of the cars. I could not stop watching them. They gave a young kid like me the first glimpse of cars in action, not just dreaming about them in car magazines. Here was my favorite. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gq-trf0d8b0

These were short little clips put together in the game to highlight the car. To this day, I still watch them on YouTube. Sad, I know. No mention of NSX yet? Don't worry, it's coming. I have to set the NSX up properly without sounding like a stuck up little kid. Now remember, I was car magazine junkie, and what do you see in magazines that always gets your attention? A red Ferrari. Or a Lamborghini (which was also in the game). I will be honest, the NSX video was nothing to write home about and because of that, I never really drove it. Here.... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JIVD58ZGkf0   I always wrote it off even though I read about it in magazine and it was an amazing car. Again... young.... Ferrari... dream car!

It wasn't until I got a little older and finally sat down and watched Pulp Fiction that the NSX became "The Wolf!" If you have seen the movie, you know who I am talking about and why the NSX was the perfect car in that scene. If you don't remember, stop reading, go watch, and come back to finish. As I got older and grew out of my muscle car obsession, I started to enjoy the luxury aspect of cars and prefer them over the sports cars. I preferred class and style over balls to the wall speed. I didn't need the fastest car or the most expensive. I wanted something I would enjoy in and out.

When the owner and I scheduled to have the car over, I started to do more research on the NSX and I went back to YouTube to watch that NSX skit even though it had been about 10 years since I saw it. Something clicked..... the video finally made sense to me, I was just too involved in the other cars to notice it. Sure the NSX wasn't the fastest or best performing. The NSX was the car that I could see myself buying now because of many reasons. 1. It still looks menacing and sleek. 2. It still performs well and interior doesn't look too dated. Most importantly, 3. The NSX isn't your typical sports car that has a thirst for maintenance. This car can be a daily driver yet still throw down on a road course whenever you wanted, then be driven home from said course without a 15k dollar service. This car keeps getting better with age and the values hold extremely well. You ever see a Ferrari on the road and say, "Oh wow look! A Ferrari!" I have as well. Want to know what I say when you see a NSX? Same thing followed with, "You don't see those everyday!" They are still a sight to see. Rare, good looking, and still holding its own. This one in the pictures is no different. It is stunning in person. It is clean in person. It looks like it is ready to pounce! IT'S THE WOLF!

One more video game reference. Before Playstation was Super Nintendo. Now I am going back a bit. Well, my favorite game on there was the original Mario Kart. You had 8 characters to choose from and two of them were always the best. Koopa and Toad. Why? Well, the were the NSX of the group. They weren't the fastest or the quickest to accelerate, but they handled better than any of the others and still had good speed. They were the all around best you could get. Of course you could get the faster karts but they were hard to handle, and in that game, being all around good was key. That explains the NSX exactly. I had the chance recently to play the new version on Wii and guess what? Toad was still there and I chose him. Just like the NSX, the game and Toad got better with age!

Here are a few more pics of the car for you to enjoy and then below, read on for additional funny story. Thank you to the owner and the others that stopped by. It was a great night and I had a blast.

This adventure with Cars In My Driveway was just a way to get some awesome cars to stop by and take a few pics. It has already surprised me with the support and comments I have received so Thank You to everyone who has liked the page and feel free to share it. The more viewers the more comments, and I enjoy chatter on the page. I don't make money on this page so don't think I am trying to sell it here. haha Well NSX owner brought over another buddy who will be in an upcoming episode as well and we were all chatting away. Even the wife and my little son stopped out to hang. It was a nice night. Recently with the shoots, it has started to bring out everyone in the surrounding area and it becomes a small party in the driveway. I think at one point, there were 15 people out talking and just enjoying the small talk and the nice cars. It suddenly got a lot more interesting as I am only going to let the pictures do the talking. The pictures are in order of how I took them so make of it as you will. Very interesting and fun night that was all summed up by one of the guys saying, "I am moving to this neighborhood!" haha

See you all next week!

Honda Fan Boys Take Note... This Is How It's Done!

When I was younger, and actually legally allowed to drive on the road.......... well, I won't lie, I had a blast. :) When a kid that is obsessed with cars finally gets his drivers license, watch out as hell is about to break loose. I wasn't breaking any laws ;), but I was always safe and to this day, 18 years later, I have never had a speeding ticket. I am actually really proud of that. Part of the reason was because if I ever needed to take my rage out on something with four wheels, it was at the local go kart track. Back in my time, places like Full Throttle (local kart track with fast ones!) were not around and I had to settle for what I call "Slow Karts." They were your typical slow, family style karts that you usually see at places like Gatlinburg or Disneyland. My friends and I straight up thrashed them. No bumping? Yeah right. It was PIT maneuver city when we were there. (google Police PIT maneuver if you are lost)

Now get in the Delorean and come back to the present time. Times have changed. A place called Full Throttle opened up in Cincy area and karting took a huge turn. There were a few other fast karting places around the area but Full Throttle opened their doors with leagues, endurance events, and anything you can think of when it comes to blasting around in a 40 MPH kart. In this type of racing, bumping is not only a big no-no, it is flat out dangerous. Tapping somebody's rear in a corner at full speed can get you really hurt. This type of racing is about as close as you can get to racing in a real car...... or is it????

When I started stepping up to big boy rides, no matter the model, I would at some point take it to its limit. Drag strips, autocross events, and even the occasional back road, I enjoyed driving my tanks. They were heavy, but fun.  But take a look at this little car. Before I get into details, a little funny story. A neighbor who I met when I first moved in was obviously a car guy and had some neat rides in his garage. While chatting one day he told me he couldn't wait to get the Mini out. Not seeing one in the garage, I ask where was it at, assuming some storage place. Nope.... in his basement. Haha. I was stumped until he showed me.

Stats

1960 Austin Mini
Originally a Right Hand Drive model

98 JDM Integra TypeR motor
LS transmission
Torsen LSD

And now the best part......

1500 LBS!

For you Honda fans, imagine your dream Integra Type R with 1000 less pounds. This ride is the next step up from a go kart, although slightly different when it comes to the driving aspect. This car although, is the cleanest go kart you will ever see. It is literally spotless. A few friends have seen it as well and the look on their faces is priceless. Once you get past the small stature of the Mini, you start noticing all the details as well. I would also have no problem eating spaghetti off the engine and licking the plate clean. I will let the pictures do the talking here.

Many years ago I was at the Cincy Concours show and actually saw a completely stock Mini like this and one thing stuck out, how small the wheels were. I really think the go karts we race now have larger wheels than the OG Mini. This example has larger wheels, although still very small compared to my tank, and everything on here is pretty much custom except for the body. For those who religiously read this blog, the S4 wagon owner owns this as well and if you remember how clean that car was and the attention to detail, then you will understand how this kart.... I mean car, is. The owner may get mad at this but it will prove my point. When he pulled in, the car had a little tinkle on my driveway. A steel braided line sprung a leak and the very next morning, a new one was bought and installed. Haha. This car is taken care of, and that's an understatement.

Again, I appreciate the owner bringing this sweet ride by and enjoy the neighbor magnet that it is. Just an FYI, many people awoke from their hibernation to come outside during a very nice Spring evening and just chat for a few hours. Enjoy a few more pictures here and look forward to your responses on our FB page.

New episode already complete so see you all next week for a very interesting one!

Fuel.......It does a car community good!

Many years ago, if you were an obsessed YouTube fan like me, you may have stumbled on videos of car meets on the west coast titled "Cars and Coffee." I watched many of these videos as you would see hundreds of exotic cars rarely ever seen in my part of town. People would film them leaving the event and every exhaust sound was music to my ears. Eventually, word spread and many cities followed suit with these events. That's the point of Cars and Coffee, or Coffee and Cars in some areas, it's all the same as they are just meets for people to show off their cars with others and meet new people. I had heard through the grapevine five or so years ago that a place in Cincinnati was starting Cars and Coffee. I showed up in my car, a six speed manual, Highland Green Audi allroad. (yes it had the green interior as well!)  Even though the first 10-15 times I was there it was usually the same people, it started to slowly grow. People bringing friends, then those people bringing friends, thus began the madness that it is today. Fuel coffee shop was the place to be on Saturday mornings. Things have changed a bit since those early days, ownership and the cars, but it still is the place to be on Saturday mornings.

This is how I remember my first times coming to Fuel. The many Porsches you would see, with some of the 356's being in such good shape, they put my 2002 car to shame. I met many nice people and heard many stories about their cars. To a automotive enthusiast, this was a vacation from reality. Time didn't exist during the start of the weekend. I could sit there for hours upon hours listening to people. There is no hate, no drama, and no bashing at this event. I even recall seeing a very beat up Prelude parked next to a GT3 one day, and at first you kind of chuckle but realize that it's just another car enthusiast. (I eventually met the guy and he was very knowledgeable about many cars in the lot.)

Then there is this guy pictured here. I walked up to his Corvette as he was standing by it sorta looking around, and come to find out he didn't know about this event at all. He just saw a few nice rides and followed them to Fuel. One of the nicest guys I have ever met and just loved to talk shop about his and other rides on the lot. Fuel is the magnet for the automotive enthusiast and this guy got pulled in quick. You will never know what you will see when you show up. I have literally thousands of pictures from my years showing up and look forward to its growing group of followers. Even though there are multiple regulars, there is always something new.

So this has nothing to do with Cars in my Driveway, right?  WRONG!  First of all, Fuel events provide me with an unlimited supply of cars to show up. hahahaha  Secondly, I have met so many nice people there, I enjoy having them stop by for more conversation about their cars, past cars, and even dream cars. Fuel can be overwhelming at times trying to see and talk to as many people as you can, but having somebody stop by and chat about things is definitely more interesting.

Let's use this car pictured above as an example. Now in my years being obsessed with cars, I have seen my share of Ferraris. I have actually been blessed by witnessing a F40 and an F50 being "enthusiastic" while driving by my house. I have never ridden in one though. I first spotted a 458 at Road Atlanta during Petit LeMans and was at first shocked by it. At the time, I was still drooling over the 430 and this seemed a little too extreme. I think we all have that when new cars come out. I remember when the 360 came out and I had the same reaction as I will still wanting a 355. I hope all these numbers make sense to everyone as some may not know the Ferrari lingo. I knew the 458's numbers were off the chart compared to the older models. More power, better handling, and insane stopping power, so I respected it, just was shocked by it. I remember though by the end of the day, going back a few more times to look at it. I knew at that point I turned into a sucker for it. In person this car has the most beautiful lines and curves. Yes, I am a man and just used the word beautiful. It is stunningly beautiful. Here is how I can describe seeing it pull into my driveway.... side story time. Growing up, my family didn't have much. My parents worked hard and took great care of us, but we didn't have the funds to buy things we wanted all the time. I specifically remember getting my first pair of Nike Airs. (Seriously, this was a huge event for me!) Everyone had them at the time and I wanted a pair so bad. The feeling I had when I got my first pair was the same feeling when the 458 pulled up. It's really as good as all the reviews say it is. When the owner offered to take me for a ride, I said yes. Inside I was saying OMFG!!! The funny part is, I was in such awe, I didn't even get any interior pics. I forgot. This car took bumps on these KY backroads better than my couch on wheels A6. Somebody told me you will never forget your first ride in a Ferrari. I won't.

So what does this have to do with Fuel and Cars and Coffee?  Well, these are the types of cars and owners you will find down there at Fuel. People that have the same interest in objects that go fast. Sure we will not agree on everything, but who cares. Everyone will have their own opinions but one thing is for sure, you will meet some of the nicest people and get to inspect closely some of the nicest rides in the tri-state area. This photo shoot even drew in a crowd. Car enthusiasts started popping out of nowhere. While hanging out trading stories and shooting pictures of this beautiful ride, this thing stops by.

I invited another buddy out to take some pics for this write up and again, this just proves that the crowd that shows up at Fuel are willing to show up and talk about their rides with all car enthusiasts. I mean really, it's kinda odd from my perspective. Imagine just asking people to bring their cars over into my driveway to take pictures. Sounds sorta creepy, doesn't it? These nice people don't hesitate. They get their cars cleaned up and ready for my "wannabe pro" pictures.

This car is a monster. When BMW brought the 1 series to the US, I really wanted one. Back me up here people but doesn't this car just beg to be thrown on a track and thrashed? This 135 is disgustingly fast and I have had the pleasure of being behind it when it was goosed, on private roads of course. People have said it sounds like a jet taking off and they are 100% correct. There is no other explanation for it. It is a 747 on crack. That is what I like best about it too. The fact that it can be tuned to be bat shit fast just shows that BMW knew their owners would do this. America loves to mess with cars. Why not sell a car that has loads of potential? That's exactly what they did. I appreciate companies when they come out with a car that you know within a few months, there will be products out there to make it more fun. This is an evil one!

The color on this car is eye opening to say the least. My picture skills would never be able to catch it in its entirety. It's unique and that's the best part. I am all for unique colors. Hell, I had a Kermit the frog colored Audi. It is so evil looking in the sun that I hope that image stays burned in my head. My boy even did about 20 laps around it, even kept trying to touch the wheels. I found myself wanting to do the same. Seriously, you just want to get in this car and dominate some backroads. I can't say that enough. The owner and his buddy that stopped by would have stayed for hours talking cars if I didn't have to get the little one to bed. They even chatted with the boy. Why am I mentioning that? Because that's how we all should be. I get sick of the internet battles and the online car drama. In real life, people enjoy other people and ones that share the same interest will always have something to chat about.

I want to take this time to thank both parties for bringing their rides by, and the random one that popped in. Seriously, I am pretty sure my neighbors think I am a drug dealer or just hit the lotto. Haha. It is nice to hear stories and chat it up with people that grew up doing the same things I did, reading car magazines and making those dreams a reality and buying the cars they love. I am one lucky SOB for having friends that will gladly bring their cars by for some pictures. I mean, until I hit the lotto, I can't buy all of these cars so why not have them share them a bit, right? ;) You guys know who you are, so thank you very much for a wild and fun week. Thanks for putting up with my drool and Jr. Varsity picture taking skills.

For those of you not from the Cincinnati area, check out Fuel Coffee at 2726 Riverside Drive 45202. Especially on Saturday mornings if you are in the area.

Now I leave you with two of the sexiest pictures I got this week.

MMMMMMM CF!

Holy Sexy curve... can't....stop....looking!

Sorry for all of my grammar/spelling errors. I had a busy weekend. lol

Some more pics for your enjoyment.

Winter almost over? This Camaro thinks so!

Another history lesson is in session. Back in my early driving days, I was into American Muscle. I owned a 90 5.0 LX, and one of my favorite things to do was bait the 3rd gen Camaro because they always wanted to race, and I would always embarrass them. I can honestly say that my 5.0 never lost to a Camaro back in the late 90s when I was racing it at the local drag strip. Of course, I never raced the fourth gen models when they had the LT/LS motor. So out of the gate, based on my past, I have always been Anti-Camaro. When the SS came out in the 4th gen, I will be honest, I wanted one bad. I loved to rip gears in the stang and wanted to do the same with the SS. A few years after the mustang was gone, my German sedan obsession began and Maverick and Goose would say "I've lost that lovin feelin" when it comes to American cars.

That brings us to another point. What happened? Why did the Camaro stop production? Why would Chevy give up the fight against the Mustang? WIKI says low sales......but why throw in the towel? This new generation though, has a lot going for it. Explanation below.

I will say one thing that really impressed me, and being a luxury sedan buff, the interior was surprisingly.............. surprising. I have been in a few gen 3 cars and driven a few gen 4 z28s, and have always forgotten the interior as it was not something Chevy seemed to focus on at the time. This 1LE SS was comfortable and well put together. Granted the SS is no Mercedes, but it has now shifted from the Cavalier interior, to the new age interior it deserves.

Now normally I don't like to rattle off opinions of others on each car until I see it for myself, and the one complaint I hear a lot is about the blind spot in this car. This car has a wicked blind spot. I mean Ben Affleck Wicked!  Over the right shoulder, not so bad. Over the left, get used to your mirrors. Which brings us to a reason why it may have it, its wide arse. This thing is bulgy in the back. Every time I see one it reminds me of the Super Troopers quote, "He's so bulgy, he's like a moose!" Then again, the bulginess adds to the menacing look this car has coming down the street at you. It is very intimidating.

The owner and I were chatting it up and he brought up a good point about value. I'm sure a lot of people on the internet have bashed others or been bashed at one point in their lives and I know for a fact that this car is picked on frequently. From people saying that it's design is actually Australian or it's built in Canada, there are many things that can be said about this car. I believe now it is made in America but doesn't change the fact that this car is good value. It is hard to argue facts and times these cars have laid down on tracks like the Ring. For the cost, and beating many more expensive cars, the argument for this car is validated. The ZL1 version has put down some amazing times and this 1LE version will most likely do the same. Yes, there will always be that argument out there about quality and prestige but when you step back and look at it, this car is a very good value for what you get. Wasn't that the point of the SS/Z28 back in the day? Sport car performance with lower cost than the Vette. Now the owner of this example is no stranger to the SS. He will be installing Go-Go parts in this car very soon, and I for one look forward to taking a ride in it. Rear wheel drive, a 6 speed with a man pedal, and big ol' V8 are a recipe for fun times!

I for one have been one of those to bash this car a bit, but after seeing it in person, and examining the car inside and out, I realize this is.....well..... a really, really good value for your money. It's fast, handles well, and sounds the part on top of that. How many people here would have thought a Camaro would have back up sensors and camera, or a large screen for navi, or performance that could rival some cars twice its price? Well surprise, surprise! It does. Thank you to the owner for being a man and bringing his ride over in the cold, even though it was 65 degrees and sunny the day before. As I am writing this, it is snowing pretty hard, just hours after he left. It is nice to meet another car guru that has different tastes in cars. This has taught me that I still have a little of that American Hot Rod blood still in me, and I will always. I think in a sense most car enthusiasts respect every car out there, even though they may not show it. I know I am on the receiving end of car bashing often, but deep down, I know those people would really enjoy the cars they are making fun of.

And for my final thought, Jerry Springer style, I believe this is a great start to the Cars In My Driveway season. I have been narrow minded in the past about cars because I like what I like. That doesn't mean I should be Anti-everything else. Every time a car comes by that I am not in love with, I realize I become in love with it. I will be doing more write ups as they come in and am looking forward to the warm weather in the future so I can see more unique rides. What do you all think? Should the owners now let me drive them for a little roasting tires fun????? I'll let you all answer that one for me.

-Thanks for reading!
